Purchasing & Procurement

Summary

A few decades ago, the Purchasing function in an Oil & Gas Company was seen only as a Procurement function, being in charge of supplying Goods and Services defined by the end user.
Over the years, the Purchasing function has won its letters of nobility and has proven to be a powerful leverage of savings and cost reduction.

In the energy sector, where production sites are geographically isolated and scattered and Vendor’s markets subject to uncontrolled cycles, Purchasing has also the mission to secure the sourcing and supply of high-tech equipment which will travel all over the world before being installed offshore or in remote areas.

These two objectives, cost saving and securing of supply, make the Purchasing & Procurement a strategic function and an essential segment of the Supply Chain as it drives the other steps of the chain.
Purchasing is also a function exposed to corruption attempts and is a strong vector of implementation of the CSR policy of the Company. This course also talks about Ethics in Business and Sustainable Purchasing and Local Content Strategy & Plan.

The first module of the course defines the Supply Chain. For a better understanding it compares both Manufacturing Industry and Upstream Industry's Supply Chain, their similarities and differences. Exercises allow the trainees to define it by themselves by playing a role.
It details the Supply Chain functions and their interaction.
For a better efficiency, it links Procurement and Logistics functions within the chain.

The second module gives describes the full Purchasing Process from the identification of a Requirement until its delivery on Site. This part includes the important steps of Cost Analysis and Methodology and Negotiation through an overview of the Adinergy's specific method DIDACTIC.

In Module 3, the course is focusing on the strategic tools of an efficient Purchasing Strategy: Category Management, Supplier's strategy and Market studies, Frame Agreements and Frame Contracts. A specific section describes Strategy and Objectives of Procurement in Project in the frame of an EPC Contract.

The fourth Module, is a complete and detailed study of International Freight Forwarding: Legal framework, Incoterms Customs regulations packing... for a safe and efficient Procurement.
